
Zion/Kanab Loop

The Zion/Kanab loop is a beautiful drive that takes you through a wide variety of scenery. After Springdale, Utah you climb a windy road to go through the Zion Tunnel. After the tunnel are beautiful naturally carved sandstone mountains. After the park, the road travels through high level ranching country. At Carmel Junction, you make a right to head south on US Hwy 89 to the town of Kanab. A quick side-trip by following Hwy 89 to the east is a visit to the Gunsmoke movie set in Johnson Canyon. The drive is 15.0 miles and takes 18 minutes. Continue through Kanab on US Hwy 89A and through Fredonia, Arizona. Turn right on to AZ Hwy 289 and make a quick stop at the Pipe Spring National Monument. Continuing on you will go through the famous polygamist towns of Colorado City, Arizona and Hildale, Utah. You will then go through Hurricane, Utah and back to the Convention Center. Hurricane, Utah is where all the ants come from if you have ever received an Ant Farm. As you enter Hurricane at a stop sign, on the far-left corner of the intersection is the home of Chums, the eyeglass retainer company. There is a company store inside the front doors.
